Wedding Cake Creation

Here is the final cake all set up at the reception center in Vernal. It is made of white cake with raspberry filling, butter cream icing and fondant with brown swirly designs to match her really cute announcements. The bottome layer is made of rice crispies wich Cristy promised to help eat. I will hold her to it. Congratulations to the new Mr. and Mrs. Wood.
For all those who voted on putting ribbon on the bottom, you got your wish. The cake was only partially done when we brough it to the reception to set up. It was in three pieces. Alysse wanted icing along the bottom of each tier but the icing wasn't cooperating. I did every trick I knew and it still wans't great. But the ribbon made it look 1000 times better to help cover up some imperfections. The rose on the second teir helped as well.

I made a practice cake for Alysse at my home in Amalga. This is what it looked like. A couple of weeks ago I took Alysse to lunch and we discussed the photo below and talk about how she wanted her wedding cake. I'm very glad I did a practice cake. It took a lot more ingredients than I thought it would.


Here is the original picture that Alysse gave me to go off. Its not exactly like it but I think it was a pretty good shot. Thanks to Aaron who helped me on Saturday. It would not have been at the reception hall on time if it wasn't for his help. Also thank you to Sheryl for letting me use her kitchen for the creation period. Thank you for Alysse for letting me make her cake. I hope it met her approval.




Fishing at Little Brush Creek?

This weekend, our family traveled to Vernal. We were able to go up the mountain on Friday to a small creek to fish. Aaron and Grandpa Wilson figured that it was probably Little Brush Creek. This butterfly landed on Aaron's cap but flew off before I could get my camera out. Thankfully it only flew to a branch and sat long enough to snap this pretty picture. I love my camera.
Me and my "high-tech" fishing gear. I wasn't even wearing decent shoes. I didn't catch any fish, I wanted to get pictures of the boys fishing. But I had to try my hand at it.

Here is Aaron's first, and biggest catch of the day. The fish didn't really get bigger than this.


All Collin wanted to do is play in the mud and water. So we stripped him down and he and Grandma Wilson sat by the creek to play. He was sooooo happy.



Here is Daddy and Adon getting the hang of tossing a worm to the fish. Grandpa figured out that Adon caught the most fish that day. Grandpa would get a fish on the hook and then hand the pole to Adon. Adon would then reel the fish in, announce that he had a fish on and then quickly give the pole back to Grandpa so he could take care of the small, slimy, wriggling thing on the end of it. Adon didn't care to touch the fish.





Bringing up Gamers

We are helping Adon learn to count. I got him this little game that we grew up with. He loves to play any sort of games and he is a wiz at puzzles.
Any time with Daddy is awesome so Adon chose to play a game and teach Daddy how to play. Mommy even joined in.

Daddy is quite the photographer. Adon loves the slides at the park. He has finally overcome his fear of slides and goes down over and over and over.

Sleeping Like a Baby

I like to sneak in on my boys to watch them sleep. Collin doesn't like blankets. Even though we cover him up every time we lay him down this is usually how he ends up. He has his little feet tucked under his bum and his arms tucked under his chest with his bum in the air. Its so cute.

Stung by a Wasp

Adon got stung by a wasp for the first time today. We were at a neighbor's house. At first I thought that the wasp just scared him. But it really did sting him. Funny thing, when I went to go help him out, the silly thing stung me on my arm. Poor Adon cried. You can barely see the sing site because we put stuff on it.

Grandma was so nice to let us spend a hot afternoon in her little kiddie pool. The water was cold but the boys got in. Even Grandma got in!
Collin was a little hesitant to get in. But he soon enjoyed it.

Successfully Keeping the Romance Alive

I have a little story to tell on my sweet husband. Last Saturday, I went to a bridal shower and Aaron stayed home with the boys (brownie point #1). By the time I had gotten home they were bathed (#2) and in their pajamas (#3) just ready for kisses and prayers(#4). Not only that, he had the laundry done (#5), the floors swept and mopped (#6, #7); as well as the dishes going in the dishwasher and the sink clean (#8, #9). I love it when he does that. After we put the kids to bed he asked me to go for a ten minute walk (#10) because our night wasn't quite ready yet. What more could I ask for? So I left. When I came back there were red roses on each of my steps to our front door (#11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18,19,20). The table was set for a candle lit dinner (#21); corn on the cob and sparkling berry cider. This may not sound like the most romantic dinner but it was just what I wanted. We split a Twix bar for desert (#22). Talk about romantic. It was a great night to enjoy one another and rekindle the flame. I'm so thankful that he takes the opportunity and puts forth the effort. This week he is working twelve hour shifts to help with some emergency financial issues (#23,24,25,26,27). What a hero. My Hero~!

A Stiff in the Back Yard...

Sunday after dinner we all went out into our back yard to enjoy the cool evening. We were all on the trampoline playing and taking in the sunshine before the misquitoes come out. The shadows were starting to get longer and the air started to get cooler. Adon got tired of jumping on the trampoline and he decided to get off. He can get himself on and off now with just the help of a little plastic chair courtesy of the neighbors. We have a big back yard that is now covered in grass. He started walking across it to get to the slide, swings, and sand box. I was holding Collin as it was getting closer to bedtime. In the shadow of the house Adon picked up something. "Mouse" he yelled to me. Although I would never claim to have good vision, this thing that he called a mouse was waaaayyyy to big to be a mouse and looked nothing like it. Just to be cautious and worried it may be something like a mouse I told him to put it down and go play. He did but kept looking at it and, again, said "mouse". Being the lazy person I am, I layed back down on the trampoline in the warm sun and forgot about it. A few minutes later I couldn't see where Adon was playing, nor could I hear him. Motherly instincts kicked in and I pried myself off of the warm trampoline to go and check on him. As I crossed the back yard, I was curious to see what exactly it was that Adon had picked up. I found it. "Aaron" I yelled, "its a RAT!" Not just a rat, a big, fat, stiff, dead rat and my little two year old had picked it up to show me!! Aaron started to laugh. "This is not funny" I said to him, which only made him laugh harder. UGGGgg! I was mortified. Okay, we live near many farms and I'm not doubting the existance of rats in the area because we have seen all sorts of animals; birds, snakes, mice, bugs, spiders; everything. This was definately a rat. I have to admit that the only live rats that I have seen were at the zoo and one an old school mate had as a pet. This thing was huge. It wasn't even bloated, this was a fresh kill. As fresh as a dead rat with a stiff, scaley tail, and flies could get. Yes, my little boy had found a "mouse" a big one, and he wanted me to know it. Yuck! I'm pretty sure we owe thanks to Carmel our neighbor's cat who is a Really good mouser.

Fire Fire

Last night we had some lightning storms and this morning we woke to lots of smoke in the air. I'm not sure if they are related but there was a pretty bad fire up north west of our house. The smoke filled the sky and turning it yellow. It was the same color as the hay fields. It blocked out the sun but when it did peek through it was a deep orange and Adon loved pointing it out. Tonight there are supposed to be more storms so we hope that there are no more fires.
